Southampton ‘have £2.6m bid accepted by Lyon for striker Moussa Dembele’ with ex-Fulham ace out of contract in summer

SOUTHAMPTON have had a £2.6million bid for Moussa Dembele accepted as Lyon try to avoid losing him for free in the summer.

The striker’s contract is up at the end of the season and looked destined to leave France after failing to renew it.

Dembele, 26, was ready to play out the season before making a move but could now pack his Lyon bags early.

According to reporter Fraser Fletcher, Southampton have had a €3m (£2.6m) offer accepted for the forward.

It will bring the Frenchman back to England for the first time since leaving Fulham in 2016.

From there he moved to Celtic, winning the Scottish Premiership twice.

After two more years in Britain, Demeble returned to his homeland but did spend a season on loan with Atletico Madrid in 2021.

He made just five league appearances, without scoring, but still picked up a LaLiga winners medal.

This season, Dembele has managed just two goals in his 14 appearances, spending much of it with his future up in the air.

He prepares to join rock-bottom Southampton, who are in desperate need of a goal scorer.
