Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwah Akkufo Addo has achieved something significant his predecessors had but was missing in his government.

This is a significant achievement he had been graving for is Ghana’s participation in the World Cup. His predecessors had achieved this feat in previous years.

The President had double joy as he celebrated his birthday on the same day as the Senior National Team qualified for the World Cup. The Black Stars drew 1-1 with Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana made their first ever World Cup in 2006 during the tenure of President John Agyekum Kuffour. This was something special as the Black Stars had failed in various attempts before his era. This became something significant with the government as the Black Stars became the first African team to make it to the knockout stages in their first appearance. They lost 3-0 to then defending champions Brazil.

Under the governance of late President John Evans Atta-Mills Ghana qualified for their second consecutive World Cup in 2010. The Black Stars made huge impact as they nearly made history as the first African team to enter the Semi-finals of the World Cup.

They lost on penalties to Uruguay after drawing 1-1 in regular time at the Quarter finals. Striker Asamoah Gyan missed an essential penalty within the 90 minutes of play.

Former President John Dramani Mahama also had his fair share of this football achievement when the Black Stars qualified for the World Cup in 2014. That appearance rather ended the love for the Stars as monetary issues created big controversies.

Ghana were bundled out of the tournament at the group stages when they were expected to make better impact. This was their third consecutive appearance. The players revolted against the government and Football Association over unpaid bonuses.

Former President Mahama

The Black Stars failed to rewrite their history in 2018 as they could not to qualify for the FIFA Mundial. This was the first term of President Nana Addo. The team had been struggling to make impact on the international scene after 2015.

There would be huge expectations for the team to perform better when they appear in Qatar later this year. The draw for the World Cup will take place in Zurich on Friday, April 1, 2022.
