Fergie was at Wembley for the match and was very complimentary of Rashford after the full-time whistle.

But he called on United boss Erik ten Hag to sign a striker in the summer to add another source of goals.

He told Sky Sports: “I don’t think he’s a striker, he operates really from the left-hand side.

“But fantastic. His finishing is always good. He always keeps his shots down, which is really important for a striker.

“He’s in a great vein of form and unfortunately for us he’s the main source of goals. We could do with an extra one, you know. But he’s doing it for us.”

United are rumoured to be on the lookout for a marquee signing this summer.

Tottenham star Harry Kane has been heavily linked and is said to be on a three-man shortlist.

Ten Hag has reportedly made the England captain his no1 target with Kane’s contract expiring in 2024.

Another target is Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen, who has a release clause worth £107million.

United fans have demanded his arrival following his impressive form in front of goal – the Nigerian has 21 goals in 25 games this season.

Another player believed to be on Ten Hag’s wishlist is RB Salzburg frontman Benjamin Sesko, though RB Leipzig have an agreement in place to sign the striker for £20m.
