I’m a darts star dubbed ‘His Majesty’ who was in coma on life support after horror car crash.. now I’m back on the oche

DARTS star Sudesh Fitzgerald is set to return to the sport just nine MONTHS after a serious car crash left him in a coma and on life support.

Just last year, the 36-year-old from Guyana, who reached the preliminary round of the 2009 PDC World Darts Championship, was involved in a horror accident which left him with a host of injuries.

Fitzgerald, nicknamed “His Majesty”, came away from the crash with a broken jaw, broken foot, loss of part of his liver, head injuries and a broken hip.

He also had other internal injuries and was placed on life support.

Now, less than 12 months on, he is preparing to return to darts as he gets set to make history with compatriot Norman Madhoo.

Fitzgerald and Madhoo, 59, will become the first men from Guyana to play at the World Cup of Darts – which takes place from June 15-18.

And it is an astonishing feat when you hear the details of what Fitzgerald has been through.

Speaking to Weekly Dartscast about the crash, he said: “I was unconscious, I didn’t know anything.

“It was my family and friends that went through the difficult part, dealing with that situation.

“How my wife has to deal with the situation and deal with all the nonsense that I put up. She is probably the strongest person other than my mum that I’ve seen.

“I’ve always wanted to play darts and I’ve always wanted to better myself in every way.

“That determination was always there and I apply it not only to darts but to everything I do.”

Remarkably, Fitzgerald is now raring to return to the oche as he prepares for the World Cup of Darts in a few weeks.

He added: “I try to be confident. I try to have confidence in people that’s around me and whatever I say I try to make it as real as possible.”
