I was Man Utd’s chief transfer guru but the club is too difficult to work for – they missed out two world class stars

EX-MANCHESTER UNITED chief Marcel Bout has slammed the club as “difficult” to work for.

He first joined the club with Louis van Gaal in 2014.

The former Bayern Munich and AZ Alkmaar coach was initially handed a role in opposition scouting, helping the manager with analysis and tactics.

Van Gaal was sacked by the club after two seasons in charge but his pal remained at Old Trafford.

Bout was handed a role as Man Utd‘s chief global scout when Jose Mourinho took over.

It was in response to the axed boss expressing concerns over the way the Red Devils identified players and worked in the transfer market.

Bout stayed in the job until April 2022, just months before the appointment on Erik ten Hag.

In an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, he hit out at Man Utd, saying: “I could have been an ideal guide for Ten Hag within the club.

“But Manchester United is not only a fantastic club, but also a difficult club.

“Everything is politically and commercially driven. My dismissal was a political dismissal.

“An influential Dutch bloc (at the club)… Not everyone liked that.

“I have been critical of United internally.

“A major annoyance was the long delays within United to make decisions about interesting players.

“Other top European clubs now have top players that we had seen early on with the scouting staff.”

Bout claims the club had a 17-year-old Matthijs de Ligt and young Frenkie de Jong on their radar while the duo were at Ajax.

De Ligt has gone on to play for Juventus and Bayern Munich with De Jong currently at Barcelona.

Man Utd pushed hard to sign the midfielder during Ten Hag’s first summer at the club and saw multiple bids rejected.
