Fabrice Muamba sends message to Tom Lockyer after collapse against Bournemouth… 11 years on from own cardiac arrest

FABRICE MUAMBA sent a heartfelt message to Tom Lockyer after the Luton captain suffered a cardiac arrest during his side’s clash with Bournemouth on Saturday.

The horrific incident occurred midway through the second half at the Vitality Stadium and the game was abandoned shortly after.

It was confirmed Lockyer, 29, was “responsive” as he left the field, before Luton later said he was “stable” and that he will remain in hospital to undergo scans and tests.

Former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba also suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during an FA Cup game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane in 2012.

Muamba’s heart stopped for 78 minutes as he was given 15 defibrillation shocks to try to restart his heart — two on the pitch, one in the tunnel, and 12 in the ambulance.

Once in hospital, he slowly began to improve, and 48 hours later he woke up.

Now the 35-year-old has sent a message of support to Lockyer following Saturday’s shocking scenes.

He said: ‘Wishing you a speedy recovery, Tom Lockyer.

“It’s great to hear you are responsive and alert. Rest up and God willing you recover well.

“Thinking of you and your family today.”

Luton issued an update regarding their skipper’s condition on Sunday afternoon.

The statement read: “While our captain Tom Lockyer remains in hospital following the cardiac arrest he suffered on the pitch at Bournemouth yesterday, we understand that supporters are concerned for him and that there is widespread media interest in his condition.

“Tom is still undergoing tests and scans, and is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined.

“We are unable to provide a running commentary on his situation, and request that all media please wait for any updates to be released via the club’s official channels when the time is right.

“We all want the very best for Tom, his partner Taylor and the whole Lockyer family, and politely ask that his and their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
