As if the heartbreak of a fall at the final hurdle wasn’t enough for Leeds fans, they were then trolled online by England star Maguire.

The centre-back posted a sly dig at the Yorkshire club on his Instagram story.

Maguire posted a photo of Southampton fans celebrating their promotion alongside the caption: “Hope everyone is having a fantastic Sunday”.

Being a Man Utd player, Maguire will be well aware of the long-standing rivalry between Leeds and the Red Devils.

While as a Sheffield-born man and a former Sheffield United player, Maguire has even more reason to stoke a fire under the local rivalry between the two Yorkshire clubs.

The 31-year-old seemed to be keeping fans of both Man Utd and the Blades happy with his Instagram antics.

Just 24 hours before Leeds suffered heartbreak on the Wembley turf, Man Utd lifted a trophy in the same stadium.

Erik ten Hag‘s squad pulled off a superb underdog performance to beat neighbours Man City 2-1 and lift the FA Cup.

Unfortunately Maguire was unavailable for the cup final clash after failing to return from an injury in time to play at the ‘Home of Football‘.

But the defender will now have his full attention on getting fit in time to fly out to Germany with England as part of Gareth Southgate‘s squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

Maguire was named in Southgate’s 33-strong provisional training squad and is a favourite to earn his spot in the whittled down 26-man squad that will be named by June 7.

The former Leicester man has been a crucial cog in Southgate’s Three Lions teams over the years, making 63 appearances and playing in three major tournaments under the England boss.
