Manchester City vs Liverpool betting tips

An exciting spectacle is virtually guaranteed whenever Manchester City and Liverpool go head-to-head, regardless of league position. Their last ten meetings have produced a colossal 38 goals with their last clash a five-goal thriller in the Carabao Cup back in December.

They are usually slugging it out for Premier League dominance, but it’s a slightly different story this season. The Citizens trail leaders Arsenal by eight points having played a match less, while Liverpool’s focus is solely on securing a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Things have really clicked for Pep Guardiola’s side in recent months. City are enjoying a six-game winning run in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and keeping five successive clean sheets during that run.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are unpredictable to say the least having followed emphatic wins over Wolves and Manchester United with defeats to Bournemouth and Real Madrid. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are out of all cup competitions and can put their efforts into the final 12 league games of the season.

Home comforts…

Manchester City don’t lose often, and they almost never taste defeat on their own patch. Guardiola’s side have only dropped four points at the Etihad all season, netting a league-high 43 goals in 13 games.

Liverpool aren’t too dissimilar at Anfield, but they’ve endured a torrid campaign on the road. The Reds have taken less points (12) than rock-bottom Southampton this year, winning just three and losing seven!

Following their 7-0 victory over Manchester United, the Merseyside outfit are on the cusp of losing three on the spin having been beaten by Bournemouth and Real Madrid in their last two, failing to score in either.

So it remains to be seen which Liverpool will turn up on Saturday, but conceding first would be devastating considering City have only lost ONE of their last 51 Premier League games where they’ve scored first.

Our tip: Manchester City to win at 4/7 with William Hill

Watch out…

Watch out, he’s back! After scoring a meagre two goals in seven matches, Erling Haaland has returned to his lethal best. The Norwegian has scored nine in his last three, including five against RB Leipzig and a hat-trick against Burnley in the FA Cup.

The Manchester City striker has scored 28 goals in 27 league outings so far this season, while hitting 42 goals in all competitions. Various records are well in sight, including the most goals in a single Premier League campaign.

Andy Cole and Alan Shearer share that record with 34 each, and those were recorded when there were 22 teams in the top flight and the season was 42 matches long.

Haaland left the Norway squad during the international break after suffering a groin injury, but he’s expected to be fit and firing on Saturday.

Our tip: Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals at 14/5 with William Hill

Big returns…

Our third and final selection is a biggie. Erling Haaland to score a goal assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, and Kevin de Bruyne to score a goal assisted By Erling Haaland at 85/1 with William Hill.

We’ve already discussed Haaland’s phenomenal form, but De Bruyne’s influence has flown under the radar a touch. The Belgian has six goals and 21 assists this season, not including his two assist and goal for Belgium against Germany earlier this week.

The pair have formed their own version of the ‘Kane and Son’ partnership, with De Bruyne having assisted Haaland ten times in all competitions.

With City back to their free-scoring best and Liverpool’s underwhelming away record, we don’t think it’s beyond the realms that Haaland and KDB can combine to devastating effect this weekend.

Our tip: Erling Haaland to score a goal assisted by Kevin De Bruyne, and Kevin de Bruyne to score a goal assisted By Erling Haaland at 85/1 with William Hill.
