ADEBAYO AKINFENWA had his last minute penalty saved by an outfielder in a shocking twist at the end of a non-league game.

The 40-year-old striker was unable to level the game for his new team, Faversham Town, at the death despite having a wealth of experience at a professional level and facing an outfield player between the sticks.

Former Wycombe star Adebayo Akinfenwa has scored 121 career goals

The game took place between Faversham and opponents Sittingbourne in the Isthmian League South East division.

The penalty was awarded in the 94th minute with Sittingbourne 1-0 up, but their keeper Harley Earle picked up an injury in the process and was unable to continue.

Outfielder Harrison Pont was forced to step up and face the penalty from Akinfenwa as a result.

Miraculously Pont denied the former Wycombe striker his chance of glory and made sure his side secured all three points.

Akinfenwa joined Faversham after coming out of retirement following Wycombe’s League One play-off final heartbreak.

The cult hero of the FIFA video game has previously had spells at Swansea, Millwall and AFC Wimbledon.

He has also begun a surprising new job outside of football and into the world of boxing.

The boxing event saw a headline bout between Lyndon Arthur and Boris Crighton with Arthur coming out on top.

Akinfenwa will be now looking ahead to Faversham’s next fixture as they travel to Beckenham Town next week.
