In news that has probably rocked the Brentford FC bosses, Ivan Toney has been slapped with an eight month ban from football.

With immediate effect, the third highest striker in the Premier League will not play any games until 2024, nor will he be able to train with his team.

He received the ban after being charged with 232 breaches of FA regulations.

The FA confirmed the ban in a statement: “Ivan Toney has been suspended from all football and football-related activity with immediate effect for eight months, which runs up to and including 16 January 2024, fined £50,000 and warned as to his future conduct for breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.

“The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. 

“The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.”

The ban will disrupt his shinning professional career so far, with 20 goals in the Premier League this season, he was a certainty to be named in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The ban comes just two months after he played for England in their win against Ukraine in the Euro qualifiers.

He is now ineligible for selection for the national squad and will not be able to play for his country until early 2024.
