Wayne Rooney names just FOUR Man Utd Champions League winners who would get in Man City’s team… including himself

WAYNE ROONEY has named four Manchester United legends who would be able to make the grade of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Writing In his column for The Times, Rooney gave his take on the current side United’s “noisy neighbours” have crafted.

And to the dismay of the Red Devils faithful, he does not believe the 2008 United team – which won the Premier League and Champions League – would be able to beat them over a whole season.

Instead, Rooney believes they would be more like Liverpool.

Able to beat City in one-off games but coming up short at the end with them unable to maintain the same consistency over the course of the season.

However, he does believe four of Sir Alex Ferguson‘s 2008 side would be able to come into the line-up of their modern counterparts.

Firstly, Rooney believes midfield maestro Paul Scholes would have no problems fitting in under Guardiola.

He also thinks the pairing of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand would improve the Cityzen’s backline.

And last but not least, Rooney has backed himself to be a key part of this super team.

Interestingly, this also means there is no room for Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the first of his five Ballon d’Or trophies at United that season.

How Rooney’s combined XI could shape up

The ex-England skipper also revealed he would have loved to play alongside record-breaker Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

Rooney also revealed how he uses Guardiola as an example to improve his own coaching.

He added: “I’d love to have played under Guardiola.

“I look at how he develops people as players and individuals, at what he is doing with John Stones and how he has affected Jack Grealish.

“He’s an incredible coach. You look at how he has changed his back line this season, the progress of Nathan Aké and so many examples of his work.

“You see someone constantly working on the shape of his team and on new ways to break down the opposition.

“As a manager, I marvel at that.”
