SCOTLAND play their Six Nations opener in the Welsh Capital where they have not won in 22 years.

But the Welsh team is peppered with absences, notably the talented Louis Rees-Zammit who shocked the rugby world by announcing that he would be leaving the squad to pursue a career in NFL.

The 22-year-old released a statement on social media saying: ”I can confirm that I will be joining the NFL’s International Player Pathway program (IPP) in pursuit of earning a spot on an NFL roster in the United States for 2024.”

After this bombshell, Wales’ head coach Warren Gatland has been forced to branch out, drafting in five uncapped players and appointing 21-year-old Dafydd Jenkins, who towers at a whopping 6ft 7in, as captain.

Despite his depleted team, Gatland will be hoping for an improvement on last year’s tournament, where Wales only won one game.

And Scotland are also heading into the match with a weakened squad after second row Grant Gilchrist was suspended following two dangerous tackles at Scarlets.

Scotland vs Wales will take place on Saturday, February 3.

The match will get underway at 4.45pm GMT.
