Wales ratings against USA: Bale the hero once again and Moore makes the difference from the bench

WALES were once again indebted to Gareth Bale as the former Real Madrid and Tottenham star bagged his side a point against USA.

Rob Page’s side fought back from a Timothy Weah goal down to earn a share of the spoils thanks to Bale‘s strike from the penalty spot.

The 33-year-old was fouled in the area by Walker Zimmerman and he dusted himself down to fire home powerfully from the spot.

Wales managed to turn it around after a drab opening 45 – but Page has work to do ahead of their next game against Iran – even if England walloped them 6-2.

Here’s how SunSport’s Jordan Davies rated the Welsh…

WAYNE HENNESSEY – 6

Did well to stop Joe Rodon from firing past him from close range with a great reaction stop, but could do nothing to prevent Tim Weah’s first half strike.

Other than that, his distribution was poor with ball on deck, not that he touched the ball much in the second half.

BEN DAVIES – 6

Tried his best to keep things ticking along from the back to no avail.

Was then inches away from giving Wales the lead with their best chance, a diving header tipped over the bar by Matt Turner.

JOE RODON – 6

Almost headed the ball past his own keeper but for an incredible reflex save by his keeper to stop Tim Weah’s volleyed cross diverting in.

Was a more calming presence after the break, but by then it was too late.

CHRIS MEPHAM – 5

Looked a bit out of his depth trying to stop Christian Pulisic dominate play down Wales’ right, and ended up copping a booking for a shirt-tug on the Chelsea man.

Mepham arguably should have done more to then stop Pulisic as slipped in Tim Weah.

CONNOR ROBERTS – 6

Sent out as a wing-back, he ended up being camped in his own half struggling to venture up field to spark any sort of threat.

Whipped in a few inviting crosses later on with little to no targets to pick out.

ETHAN AMPADU – 7

Stopped a few American counter attacks with some timely challenges in midfield, and was arguably their best player on the pitch for large parts.

But looking at Wales’ performance as a whole, that is not saying much.

APAaron Ramsey put in a shift but will be looking for improvements against Iran[/caption]

AARON RAMSEY – 5

The ex-Arsenal man’s silly errors and clumsiness on the ball ensured Wales struggled to get a grip on proceedings throughout the first half.

Continued to foil Welsh attacks for heavy touches straight after the break. An off night all round for one of their Euro 2016 heroes.

NECO WILLIAMS – 6

Worked hard but to no avail, and was left chasing Tim Weah’s dust desperately trying and failing to stop him converting his effort.

Was given license to roam forwards more with time ticking away, and did more than most to help grab an equaliser.

HARRY WILSON – 4

Pretty anonymous in a floating wide role, and many were surprised to see him emerge from the tunnel for the second half.

He did little to prove his manager right, seemingly drifting through the contest until his injury time subbing.

DAN JAMES – 5

Was supposed to provide Rob Page’s men with pace and a threat on the counter through the middle, but failed to do either.

Still, his half-time subbing felt harsh, and could have offered more with the right service given the chance to do so.

GARETH BALE – 8

Barely influenced the match in the first 45 minutes, and his frustrations were evident as he came deep to win a tackle only to receive a harsh booking.

Looked equally as lethargic in the second half, with nothing he tried coming off, but showed nerves of steel to fire in the late equalising penalty.

SUBS

KIEFFER MOORE (WILSON, 45) – 7

Instantly made the intended impact, holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into play, finally giving Tim Ream something to think about.

Almost flicked a near post header in from a corner only to clear the bar.
