Tributes to ‘physically fit’ man, 23, who collapsed and died at football game in front of team

TRIBUTES have poured in for a “physically fit” man who collapsed and died at a football game in front of his team.

Morgan Brick, 23, who had autism, was playing for Gloucester City PAN – a team which provides those with a disability the chance to play – when tragedy struck.

Shortly after kick off, Morgan told the referee he felt ill before collapsing just moments later.

Emergency services rushed to the pitch at Gloucestershire Football Association, Almondsbury, on Sunday.

The young man wasn’t breathing and a defibrillator had to be used.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, his coach and hospital staff, Morgan sadly died after he suffered what is believed to be a heart attack.

Tributes have since poured in for him as a GoFundMe is set up.

A family member said: “Morgan was a loving son, grandson, brother, father, boyfriend and uncle.

“He was passionate about sport playing both rugby and football.

“Morgan also captained the Dixies Twisters skittles team.

“Morgan was proud to be part of all three. And from this love of sport, many friendships were made.”

His former teacher said: “I have such fond memories of him. So sorry to hear this sad news, he was a fabulous boy with such a great character.”

Gloucestershire-based charity Goals Beyond Grass is also helping to support Morgan’s family.

CEO Brian Dix, 58, said: “We are all shocked and sad that Morgan could not be saved.

“He was autistic, and this is why he played for Gloucester City PAN.

“He was physically fit and nothing to indicate otherwise.

“He was a lovely lad, always joking around and full of fun.

“He loved sport and would always be at training, and he played rugby too, he loved sport.”
