Tottenham ‘hold crisis talks with Antonio Conte after meltdown as boss doubles down on player criticism’

TOTTENHAM have held crisis talks with manager Antonio Conte following his latest outburst at the club, it’s been claimed.

The Italian hasn’t minced his words since returning to the touchline after recovering from gallbladder surgery, repeatedly tearing into his troops.

And the former Chelsea chief exploded at the Spurs brass following their capitulation at Southampton on Saturday.

His latest meltdown reportedly prompted an emergency meeting with club chiefs, who the Daily Mail claim were reassured they weren’t the target of his explosive rant.

Spurs CEO Daniel Levy is said to have accepted Conte’s explanation and moved on from the matter.

But the 53-year-old is allegedly still at risk of being given the boot before his contract expires at the end of the season.

Levy is said to be willing to wield the axe if Conte’s tenure hinders the club from qualifying for the Champions League.

Spurs are currently in fourth place but have played two games more than fifth-placed Newcastle, who trail them by two points.

The gap would’ve been three points had Conte’s troops not thrown away a two-goal lead in the second half of their clash with Saints.

An irate Conte said: “I think it’s better to go into the problem, we are not a team.

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart.

He said of the club brass: “They’re used to it here. “They don’t play for something important.

“They don’t want to play under pressure. They don’t want to play under stress.

“Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something. Why?”

Tottenham will be back in action a fortnight on Monday, travelling to Goodison Park to take on Premier League strugglers Everton.
