Scots footie captain left in coma after suffering horror accident at home

A SCOTS amateur footie captain has been left in a coma after suffering a “severe” accident at his home.

Scott Taylor, who is the skipper for East of Scotland League side Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, had to endure a life-saving 10-hour surgery at the weekend after the incident.

He is now recovering in the hospital and it is understood he has been put in an induced coma.

The 26-year-old, from Edinburgh, is slowly coming out of sedation and will remain in the ICU.

Since his accident, an online fundraiser has been set up in support of his family.

It reads: “It’s going to be an extremely long road for Scott to recover but we are so grateful he is still here with us because things could have been different.

“His girlfriend Lucy is at home caring for there little one, not really being able to work, and Scott will not be able to get back to work for quite a while due to the severity of what has happened to him.

“Any help to help his family cover bills and to live while he recovers to the fullest would be a heavy weight taken from their shoulders.

“We are praying he makes a full recovery and right now us close to him are just trying to help care for Lucy and his little boy until he is able to communicate again and start to recover.”

Over £13,000 has been raised on the gofundme campaign.

Former Rangers and Dundee star Jason Cummings was one of many to donate.

A statement from Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale reads: “Any help would be hugely appreciated for our club captain and his family.”

And a number of well wishes have been posted on social media from the player’s former clubs across Scotland.

Gala Fairydean Rovers wrote: “Sending love to Scott & his family.”

Berwick Rangers FC said: “Berwick Rangers FC are saddened to learn of the circumstances facing former Gers’ midfielder Scott-Taylor Mackenzie and send best wishes to him and his family at this difficult time.”
