MANCHESTER UNITED legend Ruud van Nistelrooy is on the lookout for his next management role after sensationally quitting as PSV boss this morning.

And a return to the Premier League – this time in management – isn’t completely ruled out, with Tottenham and Wolves both in the top five most likely destinations, according to bookmakers Betfair.

Feyenoord currently lead the betting at 5/1, with their boss Arne Slot strongly linked with the Spurs job.

A link-up with former United team-mate David Beckham comes next, with the Inter Miami job a 6/1 shot.

Then it’s Wolves at 8/1, just ahead of Celtic – with boss Ange Postecoglou contiually linked with vacancies in England – at 10/1.

Spurs then come next at 12/1, with Real Madrid bringing up the rear at 33/1.

The Dutchman informed players and staff he would be leaving the club with immediate effect, with still one Eredivisie game to go.

It comes following an apparent ‘lack of support’ from the club’s hierarchy.

The 46-year-old was in charge for just one season and won the domestic cup and super cup in his time, while avoiding defeat would have seen Van Nistelrooy guide the club to second spot and Champions League qualification.

All this done without star man Cody Gakpo who moved on in January, with PSV having been knocked out the Champions League qualifiers by Rangers and then Europa League in the playoffs by eventual finalists Sevilla.

But a shock statement from the Dutch side confirmed he was stepping down, saying: “On Wednesday morning, Van Nistelrooy told the first-team squad and coaching staff that he would be stepping down with immediate effect, due to a lack of support within the club.

“At the request of the board, Fred Rutten will now take charge of the AZ game on Sunday.

“PSV regrets Van Nistelrooy’s decision and are thankful he has won this season’s Johan Cruyff Shield and TOTO KNVB Cup and hope to finish the current season in second place.”

His achievements come after just one year of being the main man, following jobs in the PSV academy and as assistant boss for the Dutch national team.
