‘Proud’ Mohammed Salisu insists he will play for Ghana at the right time
Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu says he will be ‘proud’ to wear the national team jersey but insists he is waiting for the right time.The 22-year-old who joined the Saints in the summer transfer window from Real Valladolid reveals he wants to ‘focus’ on his club career first.Salisu has been invited twice in the past by coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor, but could not honour the invitation because of injury and recently COVID-19 restrictions.Ill be so proud to play to my country, to play with Ghana, the national team, the defender told MozzartSport Kenya.But I think this is not the right moment to play in the national team. I think I need to focus on the club side because I am young, I think I need to focus on the club first and then after, when everything is fine, I can go and play for Ghana,” he added.Salisu had a slow start to his career in England, having spent most of the time on the sidelines due to fitness problems but has become an integral member of manager Ralph Hassenhutl’s side in recent times.The physically imposing defender has made ten premier league appearances for the Saints this season.
