Pat Nevin breaks silence with classy message after sudden axing from club media duties without explanation

PAT NEVIN has broken his silence on his sudden axing from club media duties by Chelsea.

The former winger shared a classy message to social media after revealing the club had let him go without an explanation.

Nevin, who made over 200 appearances for Chelsea, had written a column for the club’s website and matchday programme for 13 years.

However, it was confirmed this week that he had been ditched from his club media duties, which also included co-commentating on matches.

The 60-year-old has now responded to the fan reaction for the first time since he broke the news.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: “Such kind sentiments re my CFC departure. Thank you all.

“So kind of everyone, but honestly don’t stress-others losing their jobs and now in dire financials circs are more worthy of consideration.

“I’m happy, busy, (promoting my recent book for Xmas and BBC work). Also RIP Shane M.”

Nevin confirmed he will continue to work as a pundit for the BBC, where he contributes for both 5 Live and the BBC Sport website.

Meanwhile, he added promotion for his new book “Football and how to survive it”.

The former Scotland international also paid tribute to The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan, who passed away on Thursday aged 65.

Nevin spent five years with Chelsea as a player between 1983 and 1988.

During that time, he made 242 appearances for the club before spells with Everton, Tranmere, Kilmarnock and Motherwell.

He also scored five goals in 28 caps for Scotland prior to retiring in 2000, including two appearances at Euro 92.
