Owners forced to change racehorse’s name after looking it up on Urban Dictionary

EMBARRASSED owners were forced to change a racehorse’s name after finding out what it meant on Urban Dictionary.

Many would not have blinked an eyelid seeing a two-year-old filly named Tarpup on the racecard.

One punter found the name funny – but bosses took a dim view and demanded the filly be renamed

But some eagle-eyed punters were quick to notice the horse and what her name really meant.

And once it became clear the large syndicate behind the runner had no choice but to come up with another name entirely.

Tarpup caused quite a stir on social media when a screenshot of her entry was shared widely.

To many the name might mean nothing.

But pop it into Google and up pops a result from Urban Dictionary, which explains the phrase ‘tarp up’ basically means to wear a condom.

One of those clued up on the joke name wrote online: “Had a little giggle when I noticed this… very clever.”

A bemused punter asked: “How did that get through?”

Another commented: “Should have been saved for a colt’s name.”

One person said the name was ‘terrible’ while another joked it was a ‘classic’.

What isn’t in doubt is the horse’s ability.

She bolted up on debut earning connections just shy of £7,500.

But the Marc Quinn-trained horse won’t win again under the same name.

Once its meaning became clear bosses acted quickly and demand it be changed.

The horse is now called Bomarea.

Rude horse names are nothing new in the sport – and some, including this list of X-rated runners, do slip past censors.
