ALMOST half of Brits would rather watch the feast of sport this festive period than spend time with their own family.

That’s according to research conducted by bookmakers Betfred, who found that 48% of those that responded – over 1,000 people – put sport ahead of their nearest and dearest.

But realistically, with the sport to still to come for the remainder of this wonderful time of the year, who can blame them!?

The Premier League hots up at the top and bottom and there’s a live, televised game every day from December 21 to January 2 – except Christmas Day itself and December 29.

While Boxing Day brings EIGHT race meetings, with the King George the feature on the day from Kempton.

There’s also the Boxing Day test between Australia and Pakistan.

And the darts from Ally Pally continues having started on December 15, with the final not until January 3.

As well as 48% opting in favour of sports than spending time with family, in total 55% of men preferred watching sports, as opposed to just 40% of women.

While over half those falling in the 34 – 54 age bracket picked sports over family in this period, too.

Sheffield is ranked the most sports-mad city with 67% of people picking watching the upcoming sport, just ahead of Brighton at 66%.

Leeds at 30% was the lowest, having 70% selecting family time as the most important to them.

Betfred themselves have the stakes this Christmas and could be making FIVE millionaires this festive season.

They’ll be paying out £1,000,000 to five lucky customers if snow falls on Christmas day, with a fall back of both teams to score in every Premier League game in that game week if snow doesn’t fall.
