Both women had progressed into the last two having won their quarter and semi-final bouts.

But the final lasted only a round after Ditcheva left Scatizzi’s eye completely shut with swelling.

The cageside doctor was left with no choice but to instruct the referee to wave off the contest.

That was despite desperate and brave pleas from Scatizzi to somehow manage to fight on.

“I’m suprised they didn’t stop it straight away, that’s what I was pointing at.

“There was no way the doctor was letting her out with that eye.”
