MICHAEL OWEN has shared a bizarre story about being “brave” enough to throw apples in the bin at home as a kid.
The former striker talked about what he “yearned” when he was growing up.

Telling his unusual story, Owen baffled fans in the process.
The 43-year-old appeared on Upfront with Simon Jordan.
Illustrating what made him tick growing up, Owen explained: “You know, everything was a challenge.
“You know I would eat an apple while watching the TV at night.
“The bin would be by the TV, six metres away or whatever. I would just do it.
“I had the bravery to miss and for their to be a stain on the wallpaper and my Mum to absolutely scream at me and send me upstairs.
“I wasn’t cocky at all, but the next day I would do the same and I’ll be ‘bump’ and it’ll go right in the middle and my Dad would give me a nod of approval.
“My Mum would be seething, but couldn’t say anything, because it went in.

“That confidence, that sort of daring, that nod of approval that ‘I don’t want to get b******ed by my Mum here’, but I’m desperate for a little wink, a little nod from my Dad, to say ‘here you cocky little, you know’.
“That’s what I always yearned as a kid.”
Fans online had plenty to say, as Owen’s comments immediately became a meme.
One wrote: “I can’t believe this isn’t satire.”
While a second joked: “This is an all-timer from Michael Owen.”
A third likened his apple-throwing scene to Michael van Gerwen‘s pumped up celebrations.
And a fourth posted an image of an exasperated-looking Wayne Rooney.
Another asked: “Wait who keeps a bin by their tv?”
And the Culture Ultras Football Podcast even posted an edited snap of Owen rubbing his hands together when presented with an apple.
This wasn’t the first time that an unusual Owen admission has left fans in stitches.
In 2014 he revealed on social media that he had only ever watched eight films.
Three years later Owen claimed that the tally was up to a dizzying 13, including Jurassic Park and the Rocky movies.
And in 2018 he claimed to have never drunk a tea or coffee.
Owen won the Ballon d’Or while playing for Liverpool in 2001.
Speaking to Jordan he admitted that there were other better players than him at the time.
He said: “I wasn’t the best player in the world when I won the Ballon d’Or. But in a sense I was. Realistically I knew I wasn’t the best in the world.
“You had the likes of Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane playing at that time – there were better players than me.
“However, when I stepped on the pitch I felt like I was the best. But when I sit here today, I know that there were better players than me at the time.”
