Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag looks unrecognisable as a 13-year-old telling Johan Cruyff how to coach

A PREMIER LEAGUE manager looked unrecognisable when talking to Johan Cruyff as a child.

Despite only being 13 years old, the boss had plenty of confidence in telling the Dutch legend how to coach.

And the manager is, of course, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

A video of the two’s encounter on Cruyff’s TV programme ‘Cruyff and Co’ has emerged on Twitter.

He was invited on to the show when he was part of the Twente academy.

Ten Hag and his fellow academy prospects were given the opportunity to delve into Cruyff’s mind and learn some valuable football lessons.

In the programme, Ten Hag can be heard talking to Cruyff and giving him advice on coaching younger players.

He said: “I think you should watch out that you don’t yell at the youth too much, because you can break a player like that.

“But on a higher level, such as the first team of Ajax, you should be able to say something about it.

“Those guys train almost every day in the week.

“If they keep making the same mistakes, you should be able to confront them.”

To which Cruyff responded: “So that means you differentiate between youth and paid football?”

And Ten Hag simply replied: “Yes.”

In another conversation, the Red Devils boss also asked his hero: “What is the best way to develop your technique?”

Cruyff replied: “Developing your technique is really quite simple. You have to do it: train, train, train.

“That is the only thing that you have to do above anything else.”

Cruyff has also been a huge influence on another Premier League manager, Pep Guardiola, who has replicated his methods to great success at Manchester City.
