MANCHESTER UNITED legend Sir Alex Ferguson is on the brink of losing a Premier League record that has stood for 11 years.

The iconic manager led the Red Devils to their last Premier League title in the 2012/13 season.

It marked his 13th top-flight trophy at Old Trafford.

And Fergie used the occasion to bow out of the beautiful game in style.

However, that season also marked another incredible record for the Scot.

That’s because United had 20 different goal scorers in the league.

It’s more than any other team in Prem history, with stars like Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney amassing a total of 86 strikes.

And 11 years later, the record still stands to this day.

However, it is now at serious risk of vanishing thanks to none other than Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s plucky side have impressed since being taken over by a Saudi consortium.

They have managed to hit the net 57 times this season.

And all those goals have come from 19 players — just one less than Fergie’s magic 20.

It means Howe’s men need just one more star in their squad to find the target to level the record.

And two different new goal scorers will set a new record of 21.

Lewis Hall, Matt Targett, Emil Krath and Elliot Anderson have all failed to find the net so far this term.

Goalies Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius could yet fancy their chances in audacious fashion.

And with 11 games remaining, Newcastle will be hoping to make history at St James’ Park.
