Man Utd fans sing Cristiano Ronaldo chant in Nottingham Forest win but change name to celebrate new Old Trafford hero

MANCHESTER UNITED fans continued to move on from Cristiano Ronaldo as they replaced his name in an iconic club chant during the win over Nottingham Forest.

Erik ten Hag‘s men returned to Premier League action after the World Cup and showed few signs of rustiness as they swatted Steve Cooper’s outfit aside 3-0 at Old Trafford.

It was Man Utd’s first league match since Ronaldo departed in acrimonious circumstances following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

And when exciting 18-year-old talent Alejandro Garnacho was brought on for Antony with 25 minutes remaining, the United faithful made their feelings known.

Leaving behind the legendary “Viva Ronaldo” chant, they sang “Viva Garnacho” instead as he continues to impress in a Red Devils shirt.

The teenager was superb before the World Cup break, scoring a late winner in their final match against Fulham.

He started on the bench against Forest but looked incredibly lively when he was introduced midway through the second half.

And he already appears to be a fan favourite among the United contingent as they serenaded him with a song which used to be for their hero Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is continuing to search for a new club and appears likely to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al Nassr.

He bagged 27 goals in 54 matches during his second spell with United but managed just three this season before his abrupt exit.

And he managed to net just one at the World Cup with Portugal before being dropped for the knockout stages.

Since leaving Qatar, he has been training with former club Real Madrid.

But a return to the Bernabeu seems unlikely as Carlo Ancelotti seems keen to freshen up the squad with younger players.
