Usually built up as a huge clash in the title race and top four hunt, this Liverpool vs Chelsea meeting takes on a slightly different meaning.

That’s because these two go into the weekend in NINTH and TENTH, respectively, after dire seasons by their standards.

Both sides have bemoaned an extensive injury list, particularly at the top end of the pitch.

Their last games did end in 1-0 wins, so perhaps a turnaround in form is on the way.

With Mykhailo Mudryk and Cody Gakpo, the sides have splashed out this window on the continent’s hottest prospects.

The last four meetings between these two have ended in draws – including in both domestic cup finals last season.

Those were goalless, with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge following a 1-1 draw at Anfield earlier in the season.

It’s been fairly even up until then, too, with Liverpool winning three of the previous five before that and Chelsea winning the other two.

Darwin Nunez is expected to recover from his injury to take part in this one.

Though Virgil van Dijk, Arthur, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino will again all be missing.

Klopp made several changes for the cup tie in midweek, though will revert back to full strength for this one.

Kostas Tsimikas picked up a late injury on Tuesday but Andy Robertson would have come in for him anyway.

New boy Mykhailo Mudryk will likely be thrown in from the start at Anfield after his big-money move.

Kai Havertz reportedly missed training and could miss this one, though there is no news yet on that.

They’ll again miss suspended Joao Felix, while Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja also miss out.

It doesn’t end there, as Denis Zakaria, Edouard Mendy, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all missing.

As mentioned previously, there hasn’t been much to split between these sides in this fixture in recent seasons.

With the form they’re in at present, a draw probably wouldn’t be the worst result.

It seems a tough ask to climb back into the top four picture at present and defeat for either is out of the question.

Despite both sides missing big players in attack, their defence are also stretched, so expect goals.
