Wilson, 32, has since returned to his home town of Kettering to take part in his local pool league.

However, it ended in disappointment as he lost his match on Wednesday night.

It still seemed to be a good night for the snooker star as he was given a hero’s welcome by his fans.

He told the Northamptonshire Telegraph: “It’s amazing, coming to one of my locals, seeing some of the videos of the guys watching the final, it’s the least I could do bringing them the silver lady.”

Wilson also admitted that he had been on a whirlwind 48 hours since winning the World Snooker Championship.

He added: “I went to the after party and got there about midnight after doing my media duties and that saw me through to breakfast.

“I was sat there at half past seven and I hadn’t been to bed with a ginger ale and brandy and a fry-up so I celebrated in style.

“I stole my best mate’s bed.

Wilson also brought along the famous trophy to the pool club for his fans to see.

However he joked that he was starting to get pains in his arms from holding it.

He said: “I pretty much haven’t let it go in the last few days.
