Kyren Wilson breaks promise to himself immediately after winning World Snooker Championship

Immediately after winning his first world title, Kyren Wilson broke his promise to never again weep in snooker.

The Warrior’s 18-14 Crucible triumph to defy Jak Jones’ gritty comeback was as nothing compared to the problems his family have overcome.

So it was no surprise he was more emotional than most champions after clinching the £500,000 top prize and his greatest moment in sport.

Wilson was then quick to confess a vow he had made after spotting a clip of himself looking tearful in an interview with the BBC.

After defeating Jones, he told the Beeb’s Hazel Irvine: “On YouTube one of my worst things to see is me crying with Jason Mohamed at the Masters.

“And this is going to be even worse… !

“So, yeah, I said I’d never do it again but I just couldn’t help it.”

Irving then stepped in with a tissue she’d brought for him just in case!

After thanking her, the Kettering star added: “Oh, thank you” as he blew his nose and remained tearful.

His Crucible glory comes despite practice time being hampered this season by things more important than snooker.

Wife Sophie had to give up her driving licence due to epilepsy – so the 32-year-old has been extra busy taking his two sons to appointments.

And son Bailey, six, who was diagnosed with a serious medical problem last year, will also need surgery after breaking his nose in a school accident.
