His club confirmed the news this morning and said the player will return home.

Trippier played the entire 90 minutes in England’s 2-0 win over Malta on Friday.

The 33-year-old has 46 England caps to his name.

His withdrawal could see Kyle Walker or Rico Lewis start in his place.

Trippier is the latest Three Lions ace to withdraw from the squad with Gareth Southgate facing a selection dilemma.

The manager has already seen Jude Bellingham, Marcus Rashford, Levi Colwill, James Maddison, Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson withdraw in the build-up to the two fixtures.

It led to Cole Palmer, Lewis and Ezri Konsa earning their first call-ups to the national team.

England have already booked their place in Euro 2024 and will finish top of Group C.

The Three Lions are six points ahead of Italy in second with one game to go.
