‘I’ve genuinely never seen this before’ – Punters all say the same thing after one-of-a-kind horse wins race

PUNTERS were left stunned after a one-of-a-kind horse wiped the floor with rivals at Hexham.

To the naked eye, the John McConnell-trained Chance The Robin looked a perfectly normal runner in the 5.05 at Hexham on Thursday.

Look closely and you can see why punters were so shocked as Chance The Robin won a bumper at Hexham

But being eased down at the post by recent Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey Brian Hayes, it was clear something was very, very different with the six-year-old.

And it only really became clear when other ‘normal’ horses crossed the line behind him.

That’s because Chance The Robin is a horse without a tail!

Once punters noticed what was missing they couldn’t believe how bizarre it looked.

One said in reply to a clip of the horse winning the two-mile bumper: “Genuinely never seen this before… looks so weird.”

Another said: “I don’t believe I have ever seen a horse with no tail run?

“Chance The Robin may be the first.”

It was not immediately clear why the horse, who was having his second run under rules, was without a tail.

Chance The Robin had run twice before, with his debut coming when second in a point-to-point in Ballindenisk, Ireland, in December 2021.

That race looked to have some hot types including Hiddenvalley Lake, who was subsequently sold for £200,000 but could only finish ninth in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham Festival.

Chance The Robin, who is owned by The 119 Partnership, came second on his rules debut at Ayr in January.

But he made no mistake when sent off 1-3 fav at Hexham.

Chance The Robin won eased down by just under two lengths from 15-2 Bluebell Glen, while 13-2 Queen Of Hindsight was a further quarter-length behind in third.
