FORMER WWE star Sasha Banks – now known as Mercedes Mone – was carried out of the ring after suffering a reported broken ankle in a match last night.

The 31-year-old hit the headlines in May 2022 when she and her fellow Women’s Tag Team champion Naomi walked out of WWE’s Monday Night Raw following a row over creative.

The pair were suspended and then, after failing to reach a deal to come back to the company, Mone was released in December.

She returned to the ring in February with New Japan Pro Wrestling and instantly beat Kairi Sane to claim the IWGP Women’s Championship.

However, that title reign lasted just 64 days as she lost the belt to Mayu Iwatani at Stardom All Star Grand Queendom in April.

Now she has suffered a fresh blow after competing at Sunday’s NJPW Resurgence event.

Mone took on Willow Nightingale in the main event in a match to crown the promotion’s first-ever NJPW Strong Women’s champion.

The injury appeared to occur when the ex-WWE star jumped from the top rope and ring post to the floor and clotheslined her rival’s neck across the top rope.

She was unable to place any weight on her right leg after the spot but the match continued for another 60 seconds.

Mone then received a huge powerbomb from Nightingale and was covered for a three count, only for the referee to say that it was a two count as he claimed that she had got her shoulder up.

Following the confusion, Nightingale then repeated the move and this time she secured the win via pinfall.

However, a photo was then shared online of Mone being carried from the ring by a male as fans became concerned for her condition.

But Mone took to Twitter afterwards to confirm an injury but assured her supporters that she will be better than ever once she returns.

She tweeted: “WRESTLING!!!! Phew not how I dreamed for tonight to go.

“I’m so sorry and I love you guys so much. I’m gonna heal and be back better than ever. Moné.”
