The former Manchester United star claims there is “protection” towards the midfielder and that he has little impact on the game.

Mount signed for the Red Devils for £60million from Chelsea in the summer.

But he has made a slow start to life at Old Trafford and is yet to show his best form.

Mount has struggled with injury and not scored a goal or got an assist in his 12 appearances so far.

Damming stats also revealed he has failed to have a shot on target or create a big chance in the Premier League since joining the club.

Saha thinks if Marcus Rashford or Antony had been putting in equally underwhelming displays, they would be getting more criticism.

He told Betfred: “I get asked a lot to comment on players, especially the likes of Rashford and Antony, but is there some sort of protection over Mount?

“Mount should have an important role in this team, but nobody can understand his impact.

“In his first six months at Man Utd, Antony was already under fire, so can somebody tell me why the press are okay with Mount not playing well?

“It seems fine that he’s not playing well, why is there not the same level of criticism for Mount than there is for Antony? I just don’t understand it.

“Mount should be a big player for Manchester United like Rashford or Antony, so I don’t understand why those two get the intense criticism but Mount doesn’t when he’s not performing at all.

“He’s not scoring goals, he’s not assisting and nobody’s speaking about it.”

Mount is playing in a deep midfield role and his job in the team is leaving Saha scratching his head.

The Frenchman continued: “I think there may be a misunderstanding about where Mount fits into the team positionally.

“When he plays in the centre of midfield, he seems like he’s too far advanced up the pitch when he should be protecting pockets of space that leave his team exposed.

“I personally don’t understand his position.

“He should be coming in late, like Paul Scholes used to do and I’m not seeing that in his game.”

Mount’s stats compared to his Chelsea replacement Cole Palmer highlight how bad things have been.

The Blues star has been far more dangerous in front of goal and is pulling the strings in attack.

Meanwhile, Mount’s numbers show Saha’s frustration with him.

He is failing to get on the ball in threatening areas and his low pass success rate emphasises that he is not supporting United’s build-up enough.
