BOTH Tyson Fury and Gareth Bale have slipped outside of the top 50 highest-paid sports stars on the planet – while Cristiano Ronaldo sits top.

Boxing’s WBC heavyweight champion Fury beat Dillian Whyte 13 months ago at Wembley and announced that he was hanging up his gloves.

But that retirement only lasted until December when he returned to the ring to stop old foe Derek Chisora in the tenth round at Tottenham Stadium in a one-sided fight.

Talks over a unification bout for an undisputed title showdown with Oleksandr Usyk last month then collapsed – which has resulted in him only having one bout over the past year.

And that inactivity has cost him a place in the top 50 best-paid athletes released by Forbes, which tracked earnings from May 1, 2022 to May 1, 2023, this week with the Brit having been 14th on the 2022 standings.

His heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua earned $53m (£42.5m) due to his two fights, a defeat to Usyk in August before April’s win over Jermaine Franklin on points, and is in 28th.

Meanwhile, footy superstar Ronaldo is top of the pile on $136m (£109m) following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan leading to his Manchester United contract being terminated and resulted in him making a move to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr for around £173m-a-year.

But Welsh legend Gareth Bale is also no longer in the top 50 following his retirement from football.

The 33-year-old, who was 30th last year, left Real Madrid for LAFC in America’s MLS last summer and then led his country out at the World Cup in November.

However, he announced his retirement after the tournament and has stuck to his guns – despite Wrexham’s Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney attempting to get him to play for them in League Two next season.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul also made the cut in 2022 in 45th.

The American has beaten MMA legend Anderson Silva and lost to Tommy Fury, Tyson’s brother, since.

But despite those two PPV bouts, he has also failed to make the top 50 this time around.
