Football agents vote on worst Premier League transfer of the summer with Chelsea involved in FIVE of top eight

PREMIER LEAGUE agents have named Kai Havertz as the worst transfer of the summer.

England‘s top flight splashed out a staggering £2.34billion on transfer fees over the summer window.

However, not all of them will prove to be hits, and it has now been revealed who football agents believe to be the biggest misses of the bunch.

A poll of agents recorded by The Athletic has named Arsenal‘s £65million buy Havertz as the worst signing of the summer.

One agent told the publication: “Havertz…I don’t get it. I’ve never got it. I don’t think he was needed.

“It’s the luckiest agent in the world to have done that deal and the player to have not had to move very far geographically. I would have said that before the season started.

“When you’re watching (now), you see a lack of quality and confidence. He might prove me wrong, but for that amount of money — terrible deal.”

Another agent quoted European football journalist Raphael Honigstein as calling “Havertz a ‘Fremdkorper’, as they say in Germany, the other day — an alien lost on the wrong planet.”

But it was a close-run contest between the German and Premier League record-buy Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea from Brighton in a £115m deal.

Havertz, who was sold by Chelsea, received six votes, while Caicedo received five.

A running theme throughout was the presence of the Blues, with Chelsea being involved in five of the eight deals listed.

Manchester United‘s £60m purchase of Mason Mount from the London club ranked third in the list with three votes.

Man Utd then made the list again with their £72m transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, compared to Nicklas Bendtner by his former coach when speaking exclusively to SunSport, receiving one vote.

Chelsea were then back at the reigns with the next two deals.

The £45m purchase of Cole Palmer from Manchester City and £17m sale of Kalidou Koulibaly to Al-Hilal both received a vote each.

The top eight was rounded out with Liverpool‘s £19m buy of Wataru Endo and Nottingham Forest‘s loan transfer of Divock Origi.

On the other end of the spectrum, James Maddison’s transfer to Tottenham was overwhelmingly voted as the best buy of the summer.

Agents also voted Palmer’s move to Chelsea as the most surprising move of the window.

Brighton were voted as having the best window of any Prem club just above Arsenal, while Chelsea were deemed to have had the worst summer.

Meanwhile, West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse was also tipped to have the biggest impact over the course of the coming season.
