Five consequences Russia faces as a result of the war with Ukraine.

Russia has been made to face a number of sanctions as a result of the war with Ukraine. The Russian Armed Forces waged on against their neigbours Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The result of this unfortunate incident has caused Russia to suffer some unpleasant consequences.

a. The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has banned Russia from continuing their qualifying series for the 2022 World Cup. This came as a result of Russia’s opponents refusing to play them; Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden have all withdrawn from engaging Russia in the play-off.2. Russia’s second largest city St. Petersburg was set to host the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League Final, but has been scrapped off the privilege by the European Governing body after the war broke out. The decision was announced just after 24 hours of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The final which is set to take place on May 28, 2022 has now been offered to Paris by the UEFA Executive Committee.

b. Again, Russian teams competing in the various European Club Competitions are also due to suffer some bad consequences as a result of the war. They cannot play their matches at home. UEFA has therefore decided to banned Spartak Moscow from playing in the Europa League. The Russia club were due to face RB Leipzig at the knockout stage later in March. This goes on to affect the National Team with respect to UEFA National competitions.

c. Russia’s big organization Gazprom has lost favour with their clients. Schalke 04 of Germany have removed the name of their long serving partners, Gazprom from their shirts. The Russian company is also one of the sponsors of the UEFA Champions League and has therefore lost their partnership with all these institutions. Aeroflot who are the official airline sponsors for Manchester United have also had their deal cancelled by the English giants. The United Kingdom have banned Aerflot from flying within their air space.

d. Chelsea FC of England are also set to suffer the consequences of the war after their owner, Roman Abramovich announced he is putting the club up for sale. Roman has long been linked with Russia’s Kremlin and a close ally of Vladmir Putin, Russia’s Prime Minister. The Chelsea Owner had been given a travel striction to the UK. He has now been given permanent restriction from entering the UK.
