Their players watched the game at the club’s end of season awards ceremony and there was huge celebrations after the final whistle in North London.

Emi Martinez led the wild scenes, soaking his fellow stars in champagne as Lucas Digne danced in front of the cameras.

Villa, who will play in the Champions League for the first time since 1983, posted an incredible photo on social media when their fate was confirmed.

Manager Unai Emery is seen with his arms aloft and there is a huge smile on the face of Matty Cash.

But eagle-eyed fans spotted Watkins sat down stony-faced.

The England striker is a boyhood Arsenal supporter and City‘s win moved them within touching distance of the title at the Gunners’ expense.

While at Brentford back in 2020, Watkins said: “That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day.”

After refusing to celebrate European qualification, fans called him: “A true Gunner.”

Another commented: “Watkins, this broke my heart seeing you like this.”

A third reacted: What a picture. Watkins is devastated.”
