Fans left baffled after thinking they heard famous football anthem during the King’s Coronation
FOOTBALL fans were left utterly baffled after hearing the “Champions League anthem” at the Coronation of King Charles III.
The piece of music, titled Zadok The Priest, was sung by the Westminster Abbey choir while the anointing screen was moved to shield the King during the Coronation.

However, many football fans were quick to notice that it sounded exactly like the iconic Champions League anthem.
One person tweeted: “I thought they were playing the Champions League anthem then.”
To which another replied: “They are. Same piece of music!”
Another person wrote: “This sounds like the Champions League anthem.”
While a third added: “Sorry but are they playing the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE music at the Coronation?”
One person wrote: “Aye this is the Champions League theme.”
And another joked: “Who knew he was a fan of the Champions League?!”
Zadok The Priest was composed by George Frideric Handel for the Coronation of King George II in 1727.

It has since been traditionally performed during the anointing of the sovereign at the Coronation of every British monarch, including the Coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II which took place in 1953.
When the Champions League was rebranded in 1992, English composer Tony Britten adapted the famous anthem to create the tune that is now traditionally played before huge European nights.
