Fans all say same thing as ‘stupid’ Just Stop Oil zealots invade Twickenham’s Rugby Premiership final with smoke bombs

FANS have slammed “stupid” eco-protesters who stormed the Twickenham pitch with flares during the Premiership Rugby final.

The eco-zealots started to let off smoke bombs and flares as well as throw orange powder onto the pitch.

The crowd were audibly annoyed at the disruption as loud boos could be heard ringing around Twickenham.

The three that made it on the pitch did cause the game to be paused while they were dealt with and escorted back off, lasting all of a couple of minutes.

It happened in the 21st minute of the fixture, with the scores tied at 6-6 between the two teams.

And fans were left fuming at the actions of the group on social media as one complained: “The worst place to protest is Twickenham, on prem final day, in front of 60+ thousand drunk rugby fans. Well done. Got exactly nowhere.”

A second wrote: “The most ineffective protest of all time. Not sure what they thought a bit of orange dust would do to a rugby game.”

A third said: “What is wrong with people these days? Why protest during a rugby final, #GallagherPremFinal it’s not on.”

A fourth tweeted: “There are plenty ways to peacefully protest rather than running onto a rugby pitch mid-game at a family event.”

While another irritated fan added: “If you’re going to protest something, a word of advice…don’t do it during a rugby final, got 15 players that’ll happily remove you.”

And a sixth declared: “How stupid have you got to be doing your protest in the Prem Rugby Final?

“You’re going to get thumped by a rugby player.”

As the pitch invaders were led away, the crowd in the stadium erupted with loud cheers.

And when the game was restarted, all that remained of the protest was the visible orange powder on the grass.

The match is the last game of the domestic Rugby Union season.

Saracens finished at the top of the table, just above opponents Sale, having both won their semi-finals against Northampton and Leicester.
