Not only did Editeur Du Gite rock up late, but he embarrassed the bigger lads and took all the champagne with him on his way home.

It was quite the statement from Gary Moore’s gate-crasher, who was added to the field for the rearranged Clarence House Chase just a few days ago after Ascot was frozen off last Saturday.
It cost £2,500 to stick him in the line-up – you could throw a decent bash with that sort of bank roll – but in the end he headed home to Sussex with a Grade 1 and fifty-large in his back pocket.
If that’s not a good enough reason to pop a few corks I don’t know what is.
No doubt the Moore family will oblige on that front, as this was right up there in terms of their best-ever wins.

The eight-year-old was saddled at Cheltenham by Josh Moore, whose life was hanging in the balance barely eight months ago when he picked up a chest infection in hospital following a career-ending fall.
He was placed in an induced coma for several weeks and needed a ventilator to breathe – but miraculously he made a full recovery.
So you’d need a heart of stone to have not enjoyed seeing him wear a broad grin in the winners’ enclosure where he was swamped by well-wishers.
It was brass monkeys at Cheltenham but this was a result to truly warm the cockles.
Wearing the colours of the yard’s old champ Sire De Grugy, jockey Niall Houllihan, 22, made his intentions clear from the drop of the flag.
He set a strong gallop on the brave 14-1 shot Editeur Du Gite, who busted out all the right moves over his fences.

Houllihan, chasing his biggest ever win, turned on the taps on the punishing climb for home, in the process forcing a couple of shuddering errors from the odds-on favourite Energumene which all but ended his chance.
Rival jock Tom Cannon threw a Hail Mary going into the final fence and it looked like it would pay off when Edwardstone produced a massive leap and landed with all the momentum.
But no sooner had he edged into a narrow lead than Editeur Du Gite got his second wind and fought back bravely to win in a photo finish.
Moore said: “He showed he was a good horse at Kempton, but coming here it didn’t look like Edwardstone and Energumene could get beaten.
“At the top of the hill I thought he was going very well and from jumping two out I thought he would be hard to catch.
“It’s great to see these colours back and it’s a boost to one of his owners Terry Jacobs, who has been in hospital for nearly six months now.
“Dad will have been watching on the TV at home and no doubt he was jumping up and down screaming him home.”
The result led to a huge shake-up in the betting for the Champion Chase in March, with Editeur Du Gite slashed into 5-1 from 25s.
Edwardstone ran a blinder in defeat and was trimmed into 7-4 joint-favouritism with Energumene, who was eased out from 4-6 by the bookies.
Trainer Alan King said: “I’m not happy Edwardstone’s been beaten but I’m happy with the run.
“He’s probably used a bit of energy getting to the winner and I thought after the last that we’d go away and win but full marks to the winner.”
