Dwight Yorke clashes in angry row with Andy Gray on live TV over Bruno Fernandes missing Liverpool vs Man Utd

DWIGHT YORKE and Andy Gray rowed over Bruno Fernandes’ suspension ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool.

The Red Devils captain, 29, was booked towards the end of his side’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.

The caution was his fifth in the Premier League this season, earning him a one-match suspension for Sunday’s clash at Anfield.

And Man Utd legend Yorke, 52, posed the theory that Erik ten Hag may have instructed him to get a booking.

Yorke also claimed Ten Hag should take some of the blame for not substituting Fernandes before he received the yellow card.

This led to an angry altercation between Yorke and fellow beIN Sports pundit Gray, 68, live on air.

Former Aston Villa, Wolves and Everton striker Gray responded to Yorke’s comments by saying: “But you don’t take your captain off, do you? Not if you trust him not to be stupid.”

With Jason McAteer backing Yorke up, the Man Utd icon replied: “In that situation you take him off.”

Gray then added: “No, that’s a cop out. He knows as captain of his club, the biggest game in the country is coming up.

“Why is he captain if he can’t have the responsibility of behaving himself?”

To which Yorke replied: “He’s obviously a bad loser, he loses it.

“At 3-0 down, you normally won’t take your captain off, I get it. Taking your top striker is off is the same as taking your captain off.”

Before Gray said: “No it ain’t.”

Yorke then finished: “I’ve seen Roy Keane and other people be substituted towards the end of the game. I think it just comes down to game management.”

Four of Fernandes’ five yellow cards in the Premier League so far this season have come when Man Utd have been losing.

He has also been below-par in his performances, contributing just five goals and five assists in 23 games.

Heading into the Liverpool match, Man Utd had lost seven of their opening 16 Premier League games.
