PETER WRIGHT looked completely unrecognisable without his trademark wild hair but his struggles still continued.

The two-time world champion, 54, has become famous for his multi-coloured mohawk along with his wacky outfits and painted head over the years.

He even had a purple mohawk to start off the Premier League Darts season – which has been a miserable campaign for the veteran.

He goes into the penultimate night of the regular season this weekend in Leeds, where he faces leader Luke Littler, bottom of the table.

And Wright could even go back to having a full head of green hair with green beard in his infamous Grinch look just like at the World Championships over winter.

He has even worn an elf costume to beat Noel Malicdem in the past.

The Scot sported a purple mohawk while claiming his first world title back on New Year’s Day in 2020.

Then, in his second world triumph, he had a red tip and shaved sides that had a painted snake on his head.

The star also normally sports a snake painted on the side of his head in honour of his favourite drink and nickname – Snakebite.

But just over two months ago he looked completely unrecognisable as he opted for a natural grey look for the behind-closed-doors Players Championship tournament in Wigan.

And he surprised viewers once again this week at the Players Championship 10, but it failed to inspire a change of fortunes.

Wright simply opted for his natural grey hair and beard but bowed out of the tournament in the third round courtesy of a 6-2 loss to Brendan Dolan.

The popular arrowsman previously revealed how his wife Joanne spends two hours a day sculpting his famous hair.

However, he made headlines when he decided to go to his daughter’s wedding without having his hair done.

Speaking about his whacky look, he told The Telegraph: “If I was playing again I did not want to be that typical European player, looking grumpy, playing and going home.
“I wanted to find something and I got it in the outfits and crazy hair.

“I think the players who whinge about me are jealous.

“Phil Taylor said to me, ‘I wished I’d thought of that years ago – it’s brilliant’.

“The other players who complain about why I’m allowed to wear this and have my hair done like that have got it easy.

“When we go to the World Series and there’s press and radio and sponsors’ meet-and-greets, they will all get up 15 minutes before they leave. I get up around 5am to get ready.”
