Constitution Hill a massive drifter in the market ahead of planned return in Fighting Fifth

CONSTITUTION HILL is a huge drifter in the market ahead of his planned return in the Fighting Fifth at Sandown on Saturday.

The unbeaten superstar hurdler was as short as 1-3 to win the Grade 1 but is now as big as 6-4 on the Betfair Exchange.

The Fighting Fifth has been rearranged for the Tingle Creek meeting after Newcastle was cancelled last weekend.

Shishkin is currently set to join his Nicky Henderson stablemate in the two-mile hurdle race.

But Constitution Hill’s price is a sea of red on Oddschecker – indicating people think he won’t run.

Everything else in the contest – which Constitution Hill won en route to Champion Hurdle success last year – is being backed.

Constitution Hill remains the fav but Love Envoi has been backed into 7-4 with You Wear It Well as short as 3-1.

Shishkin is a best-price 8-1 in his intended warm up for the King George at Kempton on Boxing Day, the three-mile chase for which he is the same price.

Irish Point is a general 10s shot while Goshen is into 12-1.

Not So Sleepy, who dead-heated in this race two years ago against Epatante, is a best-price 33s while Benson is the outsider of the lot at 200-1.

If the market is right then it shows Henderson has changed his mind again in the space of just 24 hours.

He was quoted as saying on Monday: “There’s a good chance they (Constitution Hill and Shishkin) could both run.

“Shishkin needs a run and I think this is the easiest and kindest way to do it.

“It is only 17 days before the King George and the alternative is the Peterborough Chase but I like the idea of this.

“He was a very good two-mile chaser and so he shouldn’t find it too sharp.

“I admit he did get taken off his feet a little in last year’s Tingle Creek but this is a good idea for a race before the King George.

“The start won’t be a problem – he says bravely – he won’t be wearing cheekpieces and we hope he has a nice time.

“As for Constitution Hill, we’ve ummed and ahhed the whole weekend and when I went to bed I wasn’t going to enter him, but I’ve woken up this morning with a different idea.

“I haven’t been able to make my mind up, so I’ve put him in.

“There’s a pretty good chance he’ll run, I’d say.

“It’s going to be a wet week but he goes in heavy ground. I’d say he’s more likely to run than not but it is a very difficult call, so everyone just needs to bear with us.

“I suspect both might run. They travelled all over the country together last weekend, so they are new best friends.”
