Classy Champions League club give out over 30,000 free beers in ‘awesome’ gesture after shock qualification to last-16

COPENHAGEN made a classy gesture to their fans following the club’s shock qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Danish outfit finished second behind Bayern Munich in Group A to make sure they are playing European football in the New Year.

Copenhagen beat Galatasaray last night at home to make sure of their spot.

The group also saw Manchester United finish bottom as they lost to Bayern 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Copenhagen last made it past the group stage in 2010/11, 13 years ago.

As a gesture to their fans, the club announced that all fans in the stadium would be given free beer.

A message was displayed on the screens in the Parken Stadium, and supporters praised the move by the club.

One fan posted: “That is awesome.”

A second wrote: “What a time to be a Copenhagen fan.”

A third commented: “Good luck to them, this is great.”

A huge amount of beer would have been given away to fans, as there were 34,726 in attendance.

Manager Jacob Neestrup hailed the supporters after the win over Galatasaray.

Neestrup told club media: “So I am happy and proud on behalf of the players, the fans and every corner of Copenhagen. This also means a lot for Danish football.

“An evening like this in Parken… well, I’ve said it many times before, and I’d like to say it again.

“Parken can do something special in these evenings, which you don’t see in many other places in Europe.
