Chelsea’s new £88m star Mykhailo Mudryk handed FA rap after racist video emerges but star escapes ban

CHELSEA starlet Mykhailo Mudryk will escape an FA ban despite his N-word social media post.

The Sun revealed the £88m Ukrainian using the racist term numerous times in a TikTok video which has been viewed nearly 214,000 times.

Mudryk, 22, and a pal were singing along to the expletive-filled Freestyle by US rapper Lil Baby.

In the video, posted last July, Mudryk and his friend posed in front of an Audi car for a 40-second rendition of the hit track.

That appeared likely to be viewed as a breach of regulations brought in by the FA two years ago to clamp down on any social media statements or posts deemed to be racist.

But while the FA will write to Mudryk for an explanation over the post and its contents, it is expected that he will avoid formal disciplinary action – which might have led to a three match ban.

Instead, Mudryk will be ordered to tell FA beaks how the video was filmed, when it was shot and when he deleted it.

At this stage, though, the most likely path will be for the FA to send him a formal letter reminding him of his responsibilities going forward without any further action.

That will be a relief to Mudryk and Chelsea, who were unaware of the video until informed by The Sun.

When approached by The Sun, a spokesman for the former Shakhtar Donetsk ace said: “Mykhailo is deeply sorry for any offence caused by the video posted on his TikTok account last July.

“Whilst his intention was solely to recite lyrics of a song, Mykhailo regrets his decision and wholeheartedly accepts it was not appropriate.

“The video has since been removed.”

Despite his apology, Mudryk was criticised by Kick It Out which said: “We condemn the use of all racial slurs, including the N-word irrespective of context.

“The N-word is deeply offensive and the use of this term by high-profile figures in football can only serve to alienate people from the game.

“It is important that footballers use their significant platform in a positive way, and we’re encouraged to see that Mykhailo Mudryk has acknowledged the hurt caused by his use of this offensive slur.”

A three-match ban was a possibility for Mudryk, who could’ve missed Chelsea’s upcoming London derbies with local rivals Fulham and West Ham and their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Mudryk arrived at Stamford Bridge this month after rejecting the advances of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

He’s only made one appearance for the West Londoners so far, impressing in their Premier League clash with Liverpool ten days ago.

After becoming a Blue, the winger said: “I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea.

‘This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career.

“I’m excited to meet my new team-mates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.”
