Celtic superstar Matt O’Riley wanted by Premier League teams as ex-Fulham trainee lined up for £10million transfer

CRYSTAL PALACE are among the Premier League clubs monitoring Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

The Denmark Under-21 international has attracted attention since moving to Glasgow from MK Dons in January 2022.

O’Riley, 22, has scored six times and provided five assists in 12 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, adding two more assists in the Champions League.

The former Fulham trainee, whose mother is Danish, signed a new Celtic contract in September that expires in 2027.

But bids north of £10million would give the Scottish champions something to think about, although any move is more likely to happen next summer than in January.

Newcastle and Leicester watched O’Riley in action for Denmark U21s in September.

Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be interested in the midfielder too, which could drive up his transfer fee.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are also considering a move for O’Riley, who has four years remaining on his Celtic contract.

Wolfsburg and Lille have also sent scouts to watch O’Riley in action for Celtic.

O’Riley was called up to the Denmark senior squad for the first time this month ahead of games against Slovenia and Northern Ireland.

He has won several plaudits for his performances this season including from Kenny Dalglish.

The Liverpool legend said of O’Riley: “He has matured and his game has improved.

“At 22, there is still plenty more to come and he appears to be thriving under Brendan [Rodgers]. It was good business to tie him down on a long-term contract.

“It would be wonderful for the Celtic fans if they thought this team could stay together for another 18 months. Several players will be attracting interest and the business model is to sell for large transfer fees and that has been successful for them.

“However, it would be great for Rodgers to think he could have the players he wanted to keep for the whole of next season. That could lead to something really special. But money talks in football.”
