Breakdown of Barcelona’s Financial loss as Messi leaves for PSG

FC Barcelona is expected to lose revenue as a result of Lionel Messi’s departure.

Messi has moved to PSG because Barcelona failed to register him for the 2021/2022 season. The Argentine has spent 22 years at Barcelona, moving through the ranks of La Masia.

The Catalan club is seen as being at the losing end as the 22
years union gets broken. According to Brand Finance, Barcelona’s revenue will
drop by 11%, which amounts to 137 million Euros in 2021 alone.

It has been established that the former captain generated
one-third of the club’s revenue during his time at the Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana are projected to lose 77 million Euros in business revenue. They are also expected to see significant drop in 17 million Euros for match day(s) revenue and 43million Euros in T-shirt and merchandise sales for the rest of the year.

Messi agreed a 50% pay cut to extend his contract with Barcelona but the club’s poor financial status made it impossible for La Liga officials to register him.

It was reported earlier last week that Barcelona and Real
Madrid have kicked against the CVC deal initiated by La Liga which would haven the
former earning 270 million Euros in a total of 2.7 billion Euros. The deal was
TV rights sold for the next 40 years.

Joan Laporta, President of Barcelona rejected the deal which
would have made Messi’s extension possible but rather sell the club’s rights
for the next 50 years.

Laporta is still discussing with Madrid and Juventus
officials the way out for the European Super League which would see both clubs
earning huge amounts.
