The 22-year-old is currently one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.

He bagged 27 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances for Benfica last season.

And he caught the attention of several high-profile clubs in December after scoring a hat-trick for Portugal during the World Cup.

Man Utd expressed an interest in signing him in January, but budget restraints meant that they had to settle for Wout Weghorst on loan.

However, the Red Devils are said to be seriously considering a swoop for Ramos this summer.

And Costa believes they will be willing to match the striker’s £69m price tag, according to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha.

Bruno Fernandes has already urged his Portugal teammate to join him at Old Trafford.

Speaking to A Bola in May, Man Utd’s vice-captain said: “The best always come in handy, be it Gonçalo or another player.

“He has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.

“I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to be sports director…

“Gonçalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.”

Fernandes added: “He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my team-mates. He’s physically strong, he’s still young and he’s going to get better.

“If he continues to work as he has been doing, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to go to a more competitive league to prove it.”

Man Utd have also expressed an interest in signing Harry Kane from Tottenham, although Bayern Munich are currently frontrunners in the transfer race.
