Belgium vs Serbia MOVED and will be played behind closed doors as fans say ‘baffling.. everyone loses in this scenario’

BELGIUM’S friendly with Serbia has been moved after heavy rain made the pitch unplayable.

Belgium have already secured a place at Euros 2024, and Serbia are well on course to do the same.

The warm- up fixture was due to be played at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

But it has been relocated due to the poor “state of the pitch” after bad weather.

The game will instead be played behind-closed- doors at the Den Dreef ground in Leuven, with ticket buyer’s promised an automatic refund within the next 30 days.

The Belgian football federation said: “Given the short-term impossibility of organising the match safely in the presence of supporters, the match will be played without an audience.” 

And supporters are not happy with the decision to not allow fans to attend, with one fan branding the game “pointless”.

Another wrote: “That’s baffling, everyone loses in this scenario.”

A third said: “This country seriously needs to allow us to build new and better stadiums because it’s honestly embarrassing.”

A fourth declared: “It’s time to build a proper stadium. How is this possible?”

The King Baudouin Stadium, formerly known as Heysel Stadium, was extensively redeveloped in the 1990s, but lacks the modern facilities of the newly built stadiums of present times.

The federal government of Belgium, and the city of Brussels did come to an agreement over the construction of a new ground.

But talks have stalled following questions over it’s purpose given that Belgium only host around nine games a year there.

Belgium will return to action after the early abandonment of their last home outing against Sweden last month.

The game was brought to an end at half-time following the tragic shooting of two Swedish fans near the stadium.

Uefa confirmed that the half-time score of 1-1 will stand.

Serbia are happy for the game to go ahead due as they aim to prepare for their Euro qualifying match against Bulgaria on Sunday.

Serbia currently sit second in Group G behind Hungary, but a win over bottom place Bulgaria will see them qualify.
