Alex Scott addresses ‘crucial’ job head-on after Joey Barton said she ‘SHOULDN’T comment on men’s game’ in sexist rant

ALEX Scott has argued representation is “crucial” after Joey Barton said she SHOULDN’T comment on the men’s game in a sexist rant.

The ex-midfielder compared female commentators with him “talking about knitting or netball” and he slammed men who disagreed as “eunuchs” and “fart parcels”.

The 41-year-old ranted on X/Twitter: “Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game.

“The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena.”

He also personally targeted BBC presenter Scott MBE, claiming she “isn’t qualified to talk with any authority about the men’s game”.

When quizzed about her commentating he said: “she hasn’t played in it”. 

“One is 200 years old and one is about 40 years old… it’s the same rules but football is about a lot more than rules… The games are at two different speeds,” he said.

Barton claimed it was the same as him commentating on Formula One just because he can drive a car.

And now Scott, 39, has fired back with a passionate message on her Instagram story.

It was a statement said by Alex along with a picture of the pundit.

Her statement read: “It’s important for representation to reflect society.

“It’s crucial that young girls and boys can switch on their TVs and open magazines and see themselves represented.

“The impact that will have on future generations can never be overstated.

“The talent of the future will be exceptional if we continue to recognise how important representation it.”

During her career she won eight league titles, three WSL Cups and seven FA Cups.

Scott also won the Champions League once and two Community Shields.

Barton is one of football’s most controversial characters and served time in prison in 2008 for assault.

His views also saw him appear on Piers Morga Uncensored.
